Who Can Receive Home Health Care?

Anyone with an injury or illness under a physician’s care that has difficulty leaving the home to receive treatment can receive home health care.  Some common examples include:

• After hospitalization
• Post-operative
• Discharged from a SNF/rehab unit
• Balance problems
• Walking/gait problems
• Debilitating pain
• Diabetes
• Joint replacement
• Heart bypass
• Dialysis
• Stroke/CVA
• Other physical restrictions

What is home health care?

Imagine being disabled, too ill to care for yourself or having a condition that requires regular medical attention.  Most people assume that a hospital or nursing home is the only option for care. However, with assistance from a home health care agency, you can receive care in the comfort of home. Home health care is an excellent, cost-effective alternative to hospital or other institutional care. Service is based on the individual's need and may range from 24-hour-a-day care to monthly visits from skilled nurses, therapists, social workers and/or home health aides.

A licensed home health care provider gives skilled care to persons temporarily or permanently debilitated from an injury, illness or hospitalization.  The term “skilled” refers to the level or amount of care a person receives.  Home health care agencies are able to care for and perform specific services that are above and beyond what is legally allowed in an assisted living setting—or what is reasonable and comfortable for a caregiver.

 

How Can I Receive Home Health Care?
